Princess Diana’s Ford Escort Scheduled for Auction

Auctioned items and auction houses are often graded by social status or the number of celebrity owned goods that have been up for grabs.

It's no surprise that in the world of auctions, prestige is often in the eye of the former owner. In this instance, a reasonably ordinary 1984 Ford Escort RS once owned by the Princess of Wales is scheduled for auction in the next few days.

5 Distinguishing Factoids:

  • The Princess was fond of this make and model and owned several.
  • This was one of the final three Ford Escorts purchased by the Princess.
  • This particular Escort was remodeled or enhanced to meet the visual and security demands of its high profile owner.
  • When turned in the vehicle odometer reading was 6800, and now it is nearly 25,000.
  • Princess Diana was one of the rare royals that actually drove herself around, which gives her former vehicles special charm and irresistability.

Based on previously auctioned vehicles belonging to the Princess, the purchase price of this Ford Escort should bring in anywhere from the equivalent of $60,000 to $120,000 USD. It is not clear if the proceeds will be donated or recompensed by the "family" in any way, or who the actual owner is at present.

Silverstone Auctions was formed in 2011 and is poised as a world-class specialist auction house for the sale of classic and modern supercars.

Headed by Nick Whale, British racing driver and ex-main dealer for a number of prestigious brands including Porsche and Ferrari. Silverstone Auctions are headquartered in Warwickshire, England.

The Sensitive Details

Of this auction will not be disclosed until the event takes place, there may be more to come once the final details are made public. Additional celebrity owned vehicles up for auction in the same circuit are, former Bee Gee Maurice Gibb's convertible Rolls-Royce (1973 Corniche). Margaret Thatcher's 1973 Rover P5 and Stephen Hawking's 1988 Volkswagen T25 Caravelle minibus.

Whether You are Experienced or Just Beginning

Auctions can be pretty exciting and newsworthy. There are many factors that make
one auction event more enticing to buyers than others. Clearly, celebrity does garner the interest of wealthy bidders. This is when finding a real deal is no longer the game, but out bidding other interested buyers for the privilege of being the next owner.

Whatever your level of interest, there are loads of strategies to master as you grow, learn, and of course acquire new items.

What is also noteworthy are the different national and international auction houses including those found in the US, EU, and UK adding a unique spin on the experiences one may hope to have.

Auctions Events Near You

US auctions pride themselves on being not only well-connected, but thorough when it comes to nationwide locations and the variety of items made available to buyers.

The allure of auctions speaks for itself and has helped hone the skills of some very savvy strategist.

What are Your Dream Possessions?

What are some previously owned items (celebrity owned or not) that you would love to bid on? Would you react if you actually found one on your list? Is price an object?
