Between the music industry and Queen Elizabeth II's untimely departure, what we are always left with is what we remember most about iconic figures.

It doesn't seem to matter if we are talking about real and rare or costume and clever. Everyone is distracted by shiny things, even royalty. Why is that, you may be wondering? Jewelry has been celebrated for its mystical influence since biblical times, and feared for antagonizing dangerous people soon after that. Let's face it, anything that can outrage, provoke, or seal the deal for marriage must be special.
We love jewelry for the story it has to tell, the effect it has on another person, and because of the exciting people who once wore it. What we are the most influenced by is what will happen if we wear it, since we all know amulets have different charms for different owners.
Tolkien didn't write a story called Lord of the Scarves. No, when it was time to immortalize a particular object, it is jewelry that inspires great quests and adventures as much and as often as love ever will. What is great love if you don't close the sale with a ring?
Pop Culture and Gems - The Art of the Bling
There is a great article in this month's Vanity Fair, "The History of Hip-Hop as told through the Jewelry that Defined It." That should trigger a few memories and blow your mind all at the same time.
So while some might insist jewelry is unethical and that flaunting it is for the low bred, the truth is we love bling. It's fabulous and mysterious, sensual and enticing.
The timelessness involved in just one piece of exquisite regalia, trinket, or treasure has been cause to conquer the world, wage wars, and yes fall madly in love.
Even if we could explain it, would we want to?
